(Spoilers for DMC1 and Resident Evil 4)
I just finished Devil May Cry 1, and boy...did everything go downhill from the first battle with Mundus to the end. It was RIDICULOUS. I understand DMC is supposed to be cheesy...but crappy voice acting plus really stupid things happening (the game basically turned into Star Fox at the end...) is just silly!
I'm glad I started the series with DMC3. If I had started with DMC1 when it first came out, I would've been like, "...okay, this is stupid." DMC3 is better in every friggin' way. I don't know how DMC1 spawned something so awesome...well, actually, it apparently spawned something horrible (DMC2), but then that spawned something awesome (DMC3), which will hopefully spawn something more awesome (DMC4).
Though I guess I understand why DMC1 ended up being so silly. Originally, DMC1 was supposed to be Resident Evil 4. A lot of this game seemed very Resident Evil-ish. The ending especially. The whole "turn the game into Star Fox" is very similar to the "turn the game into WaveRace" part of the REAL RE4.
There was very little character development in DMC1. I mean, I already knew who Dante was before I played this game, but if I had played it when it first came out, I'd be like, "WTF?" Dante's history isn't explain. All we know is his dad is Sparda and he had a mom. We don't know about Vergil yet. Blah blah blah, you end up finding this guy known "Nelo Angelo." Of course, after you fight him the third time, he turns out to be some guy named "Vergil" and he has an amulet just like Dante's. Then you hear some lady go, "Happy Birthday Dante and Vergil!" and then that's all the info you get on Vergil. Yeah. Lame. Again, thank God for DMC3 for explaining more about Vergil. Seriously, it really does make more sense to play DMC3 before DMC1, story-wise. That way a few things will actually make sense in DMC1.
Yep, now I'm gonna start playing DMC3 again, and go back to see how much more awesome the game really is compared to the first game. Gotta get used to the controls again, though. :P
